Pawana sanskruti (Rotary club walhekarwadi)
A brook (small stream) brought wastewater from Kiwale village as well as nearby villages and it was being discharged into Pawana river without any treatment. As a part of the initiative for the environment, Valveworks and Rotary club has undertaken ecological rejuvenation of the Pawana river as it was affected by deposition of excess sediments ( due to soil erosion) and solid waste that caused the problems like clogging, shallowing which eventually resulted in mosquito breeding, foul odour and flood conditions during monsoon. This had a huge impact on the health and sanitation of the nearby residents. The area selected for interventions was a stretch of approximately 700 metres.
Project objective
- Sludge removal and bank stabilization
- Solid waste removal
- Create water channels to enhance the natural flow of water
- Initiate tree plantations on the banks of the river
Project outcomes
- The quality of the water improved 70%-80% ( As per report)
- The dissolved oxygen in water is improved and stabilized the aquatic ecosystem
- Aesthetics of the surroundings is overall improved after tree plantation
